What is your favourite thing about the University of Roehampton?
It is very hard to choose just one, but if I were really to pick the top ones for me, that would be the commitment to continuous improvement and strive to use innovative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment. Roehampton’s learning community is fantastic. The opportunities we offer students in terms of career development, employability, study abroad, practice-based projects and interactions with professional practitioners are priceless.
Favourite module to teach and why?
Managing People and Careers; this module prepares students to apply for graduate level jobs; it offers them insight into both organisational strategies for career development as well as build individual’s abilities to build their own career portfolio. The activities in this module are all hands on activities including simulation assessment centres, role play interviews, psychometric tests, and building a graduate level CV. There are opportunities to meet professional HR managers and practitioners to understand what employers really want.
What makes Roehampton students special?
Business Readiness is what makes a Roehampton business student special. We continuously work with students to build those behavioural competencies that employers look for in graduates. Roehampton students are resilient, they understand how failure can lead to success and are not scared of taking risks; they are curious, they can challenge existing knowledge, are inquisitive and seeks out innovative ways to add value to the organisation.
If you are an active researcher, why do you do what you do? What is the impact?
I recently won a research find for a project examining capacity building strategies for Syrian refugees. This research has a huge impact on labour market integration policies and employability opportunities for Syrian refugees.
